Error : This page is under construction

Nava Rasa literary translated into 9 emotions (or mood or sentiments) . Nava Rasa or the 9 emotions are the main expressions that is demonstrated while dancing.  Rasa actually means state of mind.  The 9 rasas are
  • Shringara (Love)
  • Hasya (Laughter)
  • Karunya (Compassion)
  • Roudra (Anger)
  • Veera (Courage)
  • Bhayanaka (Fear)
  • Bhebhatsaya (Disgust )
  • Adbhuta ( Surprised )
  • Shantam (Peace)

from a Practical Point of View

Author's Note : No matter how much theory we read about Navarasa, the actual learning comes when we actually start practice.
Only the senior students (its a general practice) perform any dance that has Nava rasa abhinaya. However, it is my personal believe that students should be taught about different aspects of  ABHINAYA  from an early age so that they get a hang of it. Different interesting stories can be told in the class explaining the techniques. It is important to remember there is noth right or wrong in abhinay. And most importantly, Abhinaya cannot be taught. Guru can teach the techniques and the students have to work on it. Do understand that good abhinaya cannot be achieved overnight. It is a never ending process. so to all the students I willl like to tell, " Keep your ears and eyes open in the class but most importantly realise from within".

Author's Note : It is very important for all the students to practice these techniques on a regular basis. We will soon be uploading the videos on our You Tube Channel.
